Reds set to take on Gunners

12 April 2012

FA Cup holders Liverpool have been drawn at home to Arsenal in the pick of the ties in the third round of this year's competition.

The draw gives Rafael Benitez's side a chance for revenge after losing 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium on November 12. They also meet in the quarter-finals of the Carling Cup on December 19.

It was one of four all-Premiership ties, with Portsmouth at home to Wigan, Everton hosting Blackburn and Aston Villa travelling north to face Manchester United.

The ties will be played on the weekend of January 6 and 7.

Paul Ince's Macclesfield, bottom of Coca-Cola League Two, got a plum draw against Premiership champions Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Conference South side Salisbury will face the Premiership's bottom team Charlton if they can overcome Nottingham Forest in a replay at the City Ground.

Tamworth's reward for beating fellow Conference side Rushden & Diamonds is a home tie against Championship club Norwich at The Lamb.

Hereford were denied the chance to claim another big FA Cup scalp when they were drawn away to either Bristol Rovers or Bournemouth.

They famously upset top-flight Newcastle in 1972 and thrashed League One side Port Vale 4-0 in the second round.

Tottenham, who have won the FA Cup eight times, face a tricky trip to Championship high-flyers Cardiff while Birmingham host Newcastle at St Andrews.
