Rio misses training

12 April 2012

Rio Ferdinand missed England's first training session in the build-up to their Euro 2008 qualifiers against Andorra and Macedonia.

Steve McClaren's squad were back together on Wednesday at Manchester United's training ground in Carrington.

McClaren put the squad through their paces, but Ferdinand worked alone in the gym. The Manchester United defender is nursing a bruised toe, which he suffered at Watford last weekend.

He hopes to be fit in time for Saturday's game against Andorra at Old Trafford, but McClaren is expected to turn to his United team-mate Wes Brown if he fails to make it.

The England boss would prefer to have his strongest team available for Wednesday's game in Macedonia.

He is already without injured central defenders Jamie Carragher and Ledley King.
