Robson ready for 'special' match

Laura Robson is looking forward to her reward for the greatest result of her blossoming career - a "special" showdown with Wimbledon favourite Maria Sharapova.

The 17-year-old claimed her first Grand Slam win when she dispatched Germany's Angelique Kerber, ranked 77 in the world, 4-6 7-6 (7/4) 6-3 in a display full of courage and skill.

Sharapova, the 2004 Wimbledon champion, awaits on Court One later this afternoon and Robson said: "I'm really looking forward to playing Sharapova. I'm really happy to beat Kerber, but today is really important,"

She added: "I'm just really hoping that I play my best. I'm going to be on Court One playing against Sharapova and I think that's pretty special.

"I don't know if I can beat her. You've got to be confident going into these matches anyway, otherwise what's the point of going out there? I know I can play really well. I just have to wait and see. Hopefully I can play as well as I know I can."

Heather Watson was overcome by emotion after lamenting her defeat by Mathilde Johansson was hard to accept.

Watson clinched the first set on Court Three and broke in the second before an elbow injury halted her progress and she eventually lost 2-6 6-4 6-4.

The 19-year-old's physio spent five minutes examining the injury after the seventh game in the second set and she failed to recover fully, winning just two of her remaining seven service games.

"I've never felt anything like this before. I really wanted to win and I thought I had the match," said Watson, who was playing only her second singles match at Wimbledon. "I'm just asking myself now, 'Why me?'. Why couldn't it have happened in another tournament? Why this one?"

Anne Keothavong suffered a second-round hammering against eighth seed Petra Kvitova.
