Roddick and Blake breeze through

12 April 2012

Andy Roddick and James Blake eased into the second round of the San Jose Open with resounding straight-set victories.

Number one seed Roddick disposed of Frank Dancevic 7-6 6-1, while second seed Blake eased past Igor Kunitsyn 6-3 6-2.

Roddick rained down 13 aces and converted all three breaks points created, backed by a 82% success rate on first service points, to win in just 51 minutes.

Blake was less explosive in his 53 minute victory as the world number six served just two aces but crucially converted three of five break points.

American Mardy Fish eased into the second round with a 6-3 6-2 victory over Teimuraz Gabashvili.

Fish rained down 11 aces and won an impressive 92% of points on his first serve as Gabashvili struggled to deal with the power of the fifth seed and failed to create a single break opportunity in the entire match.

The world number 25 will face compatriot Sam Warburg in the second round - the wildcard entry beat Amer Delic 6-4 6-3.

Benjamin Becker will face fellow German Bjorn Phau in the second round after disposing of Dusan Vemic 6-4 3-6 6-4.

Vemic served 14 aces but conceded nine double faults as Becker came through the one hour and 25 minute match.

Feliciano Lopez eased into the second round with a 7-6 (7-1) 6-1 victory over German Rainer Schuettler.
