Rooney wants to be skipper

Wayne Rooney hopes to captain both Manchester United and England on a permanent basis.

The 25-year-old striker captained his country in a friendly against Brazil in Doha and has also worn the armband in the absence of more senior team-mates for his club.

"I've captained both on one-off occasions but obviously to get the two jobs full-time would be a great honour for me," said Rooney in quotes reported by several national newspapers.

He added: "When we play away from home, the other team are playing in front of their fans urging them to go forward.

"Then the game becomes a bit open and I think that's when we are at our best, so that's why we do so well away from home."
