Irish are confident Shane Geraghty will recover from the shoulder injury which forced him off during the second half of Sunday’s win at Newcastle. The England international played impressively at inside centre against Newcastle, having operated at outside-half against Harlequins in the season opener at Twickenham.

Life just gets tougher for London Welsh with their A team losing 45-7 at Exeter Chiefs. The Welsh, whose first team have conceded more than 100 points in two Premierships games, could not stop England wing Jack Nowell marking his first match since suffering a knee injury in March by racing in for two tries. Welsh scored through a penalty try.

Marland Yarde is eager to take on Christian Wade when Harlequins entertain Wasps on Saturday. “I am good friends with Christian and he is very dangerous in space,” said Yarde. “It wasn’t too long ago that he was player of the season.” Both wings could appear for England in the autumn Tests, which begin against New Zealand at Twickenham on November 8.

The A team held on for a narrow 40-36 win over their London Irish counterparts at Henley last night. Wasps led 35-14 at one point but centre Guy Armitage grabbed a hat-trick of tries for Irish. Wasps went down to 14 men late in the match when Tom West was sent to the sin bin but the victory was secured.
