Moore has injection as he fights to support ailing pack

In demand: hooker Stephen Moore

Hooker Stephen Moore has had a cortisone injection in a bid to be fit to help shore up Australia's scrum against England on Saturday.

Moore was a late withdrawal from the 26-17 win over Wales last weekend after straining a joint in his back in training but he believes a place in the team against England is possible.

He was part of the side that won 26-14 here two years ago and with Wales exposing weaknesses at the set-piece, his experience will be needed at Twickenham.

Moore said: "I have had a bit of cortisone, and hopefully it will settle down.

"It's a massive challenge against England but I am confident we can do the job. The way you start sets the tone in the referee's mind of who's on top.

"The first few scrums are crucial in getting a foothold, both on the opposition and I guess in the referee's head. Particularly up here, the referees reward the dominant scrum. It's a mental thing and you just have to be prepared for it.

"I am sure that's all they [England] will be talking about this week, and it is the same every time we come up here really."

Although the Wallabies are struggling up front, they are widely regarded as having the best back division in world rugby at the moment.

Wind and rain would turn the match into an attritional forward battle but Aussie wing Drew Mitchell believes his side are good enough to alter their fast-paced running game to cope with those conditions.

"At this level of footy you've got to be able to adapt," he said. "We've played in cold, wet games. The good teams are the ones that are able to adapt and hopefully we can do that if it's raining."

Team-mate James O'Connor added: "We are playing pretty expansive footy. I'm hoping for an expansive game but it'll definitely be physical."
