Stand up to the fan power, says Phil Vickery

Phil Vickery has warned England they face the toughest test of their characters

Phil Vickery, the last England captain defeated on Scottish soil, has warned Steve Borthwick's men they face the toughest test of their characters tomorrow.

The London Wasps prop misses the match after a neck operation but experienced the Murrayfield cauldron during the 15-9 loss there in 2008.

"England are going into a very hostile atmosphere and we will see the true character of the team because they will be stressed both physically and mentally," said Vickery.

"We are going to discover just how far this team has come under Martin Johnson and I don't believe it is all doom and gloom."

He also dismissed criticism of fly‑half Jonny Wilkinson, who has toiled in a misfiring backs division.

Speaking at the launch of his aptly named Raging Bull leisure wear, Vickery said: "When he is out of the team people are begging for him to come back and when he does, everyone slags him off."
