New England head coach Eddie Jones has to put together his first squad and is not short of advice about which players should form the basis of his plan to erase the memory of the World Cup hosts’ embarrassing exit.

Under an agreement with the Premiership clubs, he can only change a third of the squad assembled by his predecessor Stuart Lancaster, which means most of those who did not deliver at the World Cup will get a second chance.

But there are other options available to Jones, who will start his tenure with a tricky Six Nations clash against Scotland at Murrayfield on February 6. Those include several surprise omissions from the World Cup squad, as well as a clutch of youngsters making big impressions in the Premiership.
