Wood out of cup clash

10 April 2012

England flanker Tom Wood has been ruled out of Northampton's Heineken Cup Final against Leinster at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday.

Wood, the Aviva Premiership player of the year, has yet to recover fully from the hairline leg fracture he suffered against Gloucester on April 19.

"He trained yesterday with the team but it's one week too soon," said Saints director of rugby Jim Mallinder.

Meanwhile, London Wasps have boosted their back-row options for next season by signing Jonathan Poff from Canterbury Crusaders.

A specialist openside flanker who can also play No 8, the 27-year-old has been a regular in the Crusaders squad this season, and understudy to All Black captain Richie McCaw.
