Ruud's United opening

13 April 2012

Sir Alex Ferguson says he will decide if Ruud van Nistelrooy will face Arsenal in Sunday's Community Shield after seeing him in action against former club PSV Eindhoven at Old Trafford tonight.

Van Nistelrooy only returned to training last week after reaching the Euro 2004 semifinals with Holland and Ferguson said: "We are only nine days away from a European qualifier, so it's vital for Ruud and all the other players who didn't go to America, to take part tonight to assess their fitness. Once we get through this week we can decide whether to play him against Arsenal."

Van Nistelrooy is eager to pull a red shirt on again, especially now Alan Smith has laid down his challenge to a place.
