The Ryder Cup could be heading back to its spiritual home with the 2026 venue set to be confirmed this year and The Belfry declaring an interest.

Following Europe’s victory in Paris last year, the next contest in Europe (2022) will see the Ryder Cup head to Italy for the first time, though no venue has yet been decided for 2026.

The biennial match has not been held in England since its last visit to The Belfry in 2002, when Sam Torrance’s side beat the United States 15.5-12.5, and the venue’s resort director confirmed to Standard Sport that they would been delighted to host another Ryder Cup.

“The Belfry Hotel & Resort is aware of recent media interest in the 2026 Ryder Cup,” a statement said.

“We are unable to comment on recent speculation. However, we are extremely proud to have hosted four Ryder Cups and would be delighted to host a future tournament.”

Adare Manor, Limerick, has already bid to host the match after it’s reopening last year by former captain Paul McGinley alongside captain for 2020 Padraig Harrington, Rory McIlroy and Shane Lowry.

A spokesperson for Ryder Cup Europe told Standard Sport: “There are several parties who have expressed an interest in hosting The 2026 Ryder Cup, which is testament to the appeal of one of the world’s great sporting occasions. It would be inappropriate to comment specifically on these at this time, suffice to say a thorough evaluation is being undertaken.

“The announcement of the venue for the 2026 Ryder Cup will be made in due course, later this year.”

The Belfry recently partnered with Team Europe hopeful and four-time European Tour winner Matt Wallace, with plans to bring the British Masters, hosted in 2019 by Tommy Fleetwood at Hillside Golf Club in Southport, to the Birmingham course in the future.
