Safety moves for Malaysian Grand Prix

13 April 2012

Malaysian Grand Prix organisers have announced modifications at the Sepang circuit in a bid to improve driver safety.

Sepang, where Britain's Johnny Herbert crashed last year, stages the second event of this year's Formula One season on 18 March

Haji Basir Ismail, Sepang chairman, said kerbs were being moved back at turns five and six "to enhance safety for the drivers."

He added: "We are also pushing back the guard rails at turns seven and 15 by between two and five metres in order to provide larger run-off areas for the cars."

Six cars crashed out of last year's race.
