Saints turn down Crouch bid

14 April 2012

Southampton today confirmed they have turned down a bid for England striker Peter Crouch.

Chairman Rupert Lowe refused to name the club involved, although Liverpool have been linked with a £ 5million move for the former Aston Villa player.

Lowe and manager Harry Redknapp want to keep Crouch, but it is thought an offer of around £7million would tempt the Saints to do business.

Lowe said: "There has been a lot of interest in Peter and we have had an offer which we have turned down. We want to keep the squad together and the relegation clauses in players' contracts mean we do not have to sell."
