Sampdoria hope wages deal will see them take Shevchenko on loan

Sampdoria claim Andriy Shevchenko would join on loan if they can agree on the Chelsea striker’s wages. Sampdoria general manager Beppe Marotta said: ‘A deal is plausible.’

"We want to solve our problems in front of goal with a player capable of exciting the crowd but who can also score plenty of goals," Marotta told Italian newspaper Secolo XIX.

"Sheva would be proud to join us, but the problem would be his wages.  

Meanwhile Amr Zaki is expecting to join Wigan on a season-long loan despite signing a contract extension at El Zamalek until 2012. The Egyptian striker has confirmed that he will be allowed to play for Wigan in 2008-09 with a view to a permanent move.

Reading midfielder James Harper’s move to Middlesbrough could be scuppered by Arsenal’s insistence on taking 40 per cent of the fee. Arsenal would be owed the cash as part of a sell-on deal they struck when letting Harper go to Reading in February 2001.
