Bradley Saunders will lead the charge for England's boxers in Delhi on Wednesday night as he aims to banish once and for all the memories of his disappointing performance in Beijing.

Saunders is one of five English fighters in Wednesday's finals, a total matched by Northern Ireland while two Scottish boxers and one Welshman, Sean McGoldrick, have also made it through.

Saunders said: "I was a young lad in Beijing and the occasion got to me with so many people watching and all those cameras. I've learned from it and I'm used to fighting on this kind of stage. I can't wait to get a gold medal to take back home."

Saunders' team-mates Tom Stalker, Callum Smith, Simon Vallily and Anthony Ogogo also won, with Ogogo coming close to causing a national incident with his controversial win over Indian superstar Vijender Singh.

Ogogo, who will face Northern Ireland captain Eamonn O'Kane in the middleweight final, shrugged off the manner of his win, which came after Singh was twice deducted two points, handing Ogogo a 4-3 win.

Ogogo said: "He was known as the Indian Beckham. It's massive to beat the world number one.

"No disrespect to the Indian crowd, I wasn't taking the mick or anything, I was just waving and blowing kisses to show my appreciation."

Middleweight O'Kane was joined by light-flyweight Paddy Barnes, welterweight Paddy Gallagher, light-heavyweight Thomas McCarthy and heavyweight Steven Ward in successfully negotiating their last four ties.

Scotland lightweight Josh Taylor and heavyweight Callum Johnson also progressed to face Englishmen in Stalker and Vallily respectively, while McGoldrick pulled off a stunning win over Olympic bronze medallist Bruno Julie of Mauritius.
