Schmeichel launches audacious takeover bid for former club

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel's attempt to take over Brondby has failed. The Danish club's board refused to accept his consortium's £24million offer by the set deadline.

Schmeichel and a group of Danish investors wanted the club to decide by Monday lunchtime but have now withdrawn the offer. Under the offer, Schmeichel was to become sporting director and the group would have had three seats on the Copenhagen club's board.
