Sexton leaves it late

Katy Sexton admitted she had exceeded her own expectations after earning the right to defend her 200metres backstroke crown at next month's world swimming championships.

The 22-year-old overhauled Lizzie Simmonds on the final length to claim victory at the final trials in Swansea and dip inside the qualifying standard with a time of 2min

11.49sec. She said: "It's quite a shock. I know I've got those times in me and I know I am capable of doing it but it is just doing it on the day."
