Shorey looks past Brazil to Estonia

12 April 2012

Nicky Shorey insists England will sweep aside all distractions this week and focus on the win they need against Estonia to get their Euro 2008 qualifying campaign on track.

David Beckham has been in the limelight with his return to Steve McClaren's squad and the England team will play their first match at the new Wembley when they face Brazil on Friday - but Shorey knows it is the Estonia game on June 6 that matters.

He told club website readingfc.co.uk: "Really it all just leads up to the all-important game in Estonia, which is one we have to win."

Shorey, who has earned his first England call-up, admits Beckham's recall means all eyes will be on the national team this week.

"It's heightened the publicity around the game even more, but from my point of view it will just be nice to go out and train with players of that stature.

"The Brazil game couldn't be a better showpiece for the new Wembley Stadium, and I'm sure everyone in England will be tuning in to watch so it will be a great experience for me to be involved in."
