Halsall ready to get over agony of London 2012

26 July 2013

Fran Halsall will dive in and hope for the best when she competes in the 50m freestyle heats at the World Championships in Barcelona tonight.

Despite being hampered by a shoulder injury, the 23-year-old swimmer was distraught after failing to win a medal at London 2012.

Her coach, Ben Titley, has moved to Canada and been replaced by James Gibson and, after a period of self doubt, she is raring to go tonight.

She said: “There are lots of things I have been working on and I just want to see what I can do. It won’t be perfect because I want it to be perfect in Rio but it will be good to see what I can do.

“There are no tactics involved, I am just going to get in and have a blast.”

Gibson said: “It’s close, it’s tenths of seconds and she is up against it. All you can do is give it what you can.”
