Great Britain failed to add the Olympic title to last summer's world championships success in the 4x200metre freestyle relay on Wednesday but impressed as they clinched silver.

British quartet Duncan Scott, Stephen Milne, Dan Wallace and James Guy - in for Robbie Renwick - couldn't match their winning performance in day four's heats as they came from outside the medals in the pool after a slow start.

Guy anchored the team, who secured a middle lane with the fastest qualifying time ahead of USA, and hit the wall seconds behind the American foursome as Michael Phelphs won a record 21st Olympic gold medal.

Britain's medal followed hot on the heels of Siobhan-Marie O'Connor's silver in the 200m individual medley final as Team GB continued to make a splash in the pool.

Indeed, only Ed Ling, who won trap Bronze on day three, and diving pair Tom Daley and Dan Goodfellow have booked spots on the podium away from the Rio Aquatics Centre.
