Spurs boss Ramos will step up club's pursuit of Rovers' winger Bentley

13 April 2012

Tottenham plan to redouble their efforts to bring England winger David Bentley to White Hart Lane by making an improved offer to Blackburn Rovers.

Spurs' initial offer, including out-of-favour winger Aaron Lennon as a makeweight, was rejected by Blackburn, but manager Juande Ramos will press ahead with an improved bid for the 23-year-old, according to the Guardian.

Bentley met Blackburn's new manager, Paul Ince, for talks over the weekend and, with his England future in mind, reiterated his desire to leave Ewood Park to play for a club who can give him European competition.

But Rovers are reluctant sellers and will seek a substantial fee for the midfielder.

Spurs have put several first-team players up for sale. They are braced for Aston Villa to follow up their interest in the England goalkeeper Paul Robinson and are anticipating a bid from Borussia Dortmund for their midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng, who has failed to impress since arriving from Hertha Berlin a year ago.

Borussia will not be able to match the £4.5m that Spurs paid to sign the German last summer but Tottenham will allow the  21-year-old to leave on loan with a view to a full transfer.
