Spurs set to bid for giant keeper Handanovic as Comolli takes a trip to Italy

Target: Handanovic
13 April 2012

Damien Comolli's appearance in Genoa last weekend has sparked fresh rumours that Spurs are chasing giant keeper Samir Handanovic.

The Frenchman was among the crowd at the Sampdoria v Udinese match and sources have indicated that the 6ft 4in Slovenian is the man the club's director of football was watching.

It is not the first time that Spurs have scouted the big man from Udine. He has been on the radar for some time but, having recently agreed a new, long-term deal, the 23-year-old will not come on the cheap.

Handanovic is contracted to the northern Italian club until the summer of 2012 - which means Daniel Levy will have to dig deep if he is to find a new number one.

However, Comolli's watching brief almost certainly means the end for England international Paul Robinson.

His future has been the subject of speculation for some time and Handanovic's purchase will be offset by the cash received for Robinson who will not stay and fight for his place should the man from Ljubljana eventually turn up at White Hart Lane.
