Mark Ealham's best figures for 12 years helped Nottinghamshire return to the top of the County Championship Division One.

Ealham took seven for 59 in the second innings and 10 wickets in the match to help his side beat Yorkshire by 112 runs at Trent Bridge.

Adam Lyth's maiden first-class hundred held up Notts' charge, but his six-and-a-half hour vigil was ended by Andre Adams and Ealham trapped Matthew Hoggard lbw to seal the win.

Team-mate Graeme Swann said: 'Mark Ealham, as ever, has proved to be one of those performers you can always rely on.'

At Old Trafford, Hampshire moved off the bottom of the table after falling just short against title hopefuls Lancashire. Chris Benham's determined half-century almost saw his side chase down 225 from 71 overs, but they had to settle for the draw.

In Division Two, Ravi Bopara completed his century as promotionchasing Essex took 15 minutes to score the 31 runs they needed to beat Gloucestershire.
