Staunton confident despite ban

12 April 2012

Ireland manager Steve Staunton has every faith in his backroom staff after on Friday receiving a one-game touchline ban from UEFA.

Staunton will be forced to sit in the stands for Ireland's Euro 2008 qualifier against Cyprus in Nicosia following his dismissal during Saturday's 1-0 defeat to Germany.

In his first competitive match in charge, Staunton was sent off by referee Luis Medina Cantalejo for constantly protesting the Spaniard's decisions.

Following a meeting on Friday of UEFA's Control and Disciplinary Body in Nyon, Staunton has been suspended for one game, with no fine.

Reflecting on UEFA's decision, Staunton said: "I fully understand the charge of improper conduct that was brought against me.

"I have apologised for my breach of acceptable behaviour on the night and I accept my punishment of a one-game ban."
