Staunton parts company with Whites

12 April 2012

Leeds have announced the expected departure of assistant manager Steve Staunton following Gary McAllister's dismissal.

McAllister was sacked following Leeds' 3-1 reverse at MK Dons on Saturday, which was the West Yorkshire club's fourth successive league defeat.

A Leeds statement read: "Following the departure of first-team manager Gary McAllister, assistant manager Steve Staunton has parted company with the club."

The statement continued: "The first-team squad returned to Thorp Arch on Monday morning with Neil Thompson and Andy Beasley taking training.

"The club would like to re-iterate that we hope to appoint a new manager as quickly as possible."

Former Republic of Ireland coach Staunton teamed up with McAllister at Elland Road in February.
