SWP: I'm staying at Chelsea

12 April 2012

Chelsea winger Shaun Wright-Phillips insists he will not quit the club in the summer.

The England winger's future has come under intense speculation as he dropped out of first-team contention towards the end of the season.

"I will definitely be at Chelsea next season," said Wright-Phillips. "I have signed a contract (until summer 2010) and I'm here to see it out."

He added: "Speculation has been like this since I was at Manchester City. It was going on for seven years before I left.

"Then I came to Chelsea and speculation has been going on for my whole time here and I have still not left."

Wright-Phillips has started only three Barclays Premier League games since January with coach Avram Grant opting to play Florent Malouda, Joe Cole or Salomon Kalou on the flanks.

Wright-Phillips travelled with the squad to Russia but he is not expected to play any part in Wednesday's Champions League final against Manchester United in Moscow.

But despite his lack of first-team opportunities, Wright-Phillips remains happy to fight for a place under Grant.

The winger has been linked with a move to Aston Villa or Newcastle or a return to former club Manchester City, but he insists he will be at Chelsea next term.
