Andy Murray will continue to step up his return from career-saving surgery this week as he aims to be ready for Wimbledon.

The former world No1 had not played since his emotional press conference and subsequent first-round exit from the Australian Open in January before entering the doubles at Queen's Club last week.

Murray, who initially feared he may have to retire from tennis, could have been forgiven for taking things easy after a major hip resurfacing operation, but soon banished any rustiness that was likely expected after a five-month lay-off as he and playing partner Feliciano Lopez flourished at the Fever-Tree Championships.

The duo began the tournament by ousting Colombian top seeds Juan Sebastian Cabal and Robert Farah, before seeing off British duo Dan Evans and Ken Skupski in an entertaining quarter-final contest that was delayed due to bad light.

Murray and Lopez returned to court to beat third seeds John Peers and Henri Kontinen in a deciding tie-break before outlasting Joe Salisbury and American Rajeev Ram 7-6 (8-6) 5-7 10-5 in the final.

It was a remarkable feat considering Murray's recent struggles and the fact that Lopez also went all the way to the singles final, where he defeated Gilles Simon.

The Spaniard is the first player to win both titles at Queen's in the same year since Mark Philippoussis in 1997.

Boosted by what he has described as a title win that was more special than some of his 45 singles successes, Murray now heads to the south coast, where he will once again compete in the men's doubles at the 2019 Nature Valley International in Eastbourne.

However, this time he will be competing alongside a new partner in Brazilian Marcelo Melo.

Lopez, interestingly enough, will enter the competition alongside Pierre-Hugues Herbert, who was last week confirmed as Murray's men's doubles partner for Wimbledon.

He has thus far been unable to find a team-mate for the mixed doubles at SW19.

When is Andy Murray playing at Eastbourne?

Murray and Melo are due to play their first-round match on Tuesday afternoon, with the former once again set to pit his wits against top seeds Cabal and Farah, who will no doubt be eager for revenge.
