The Australian Open will begin as planned on Monday after all 507 players and staff caught up in a Covid scare in the past 24 hours returned negative tests.

A total of 160 players were among those forced into an immediate quarantine with all of Thursday’s ATP and WTA matches postponed after a 26-year-old hotel worker tested positive for Covid-19.

But all those potentially at risk were given the all clear to play following a fresh batch of testing.

There will be an all-British encounter in the first round after British No1 Dan Evans was drawn against Cameron Norrie for their opener. The winner faces a potentially tough path in the opening week with a scheduled meeting against Rafael Nadal in the third round.

British No1 Johanna Konta will get her Australian Open ambitions under way against qualifier Kaja Juvan.

Heather Watson, who was among the players to face the two-week hard hotel quarantine on arrival in Melbourne, begins her ambitions Down Under against Kristyna Pliskova.

British qualifier Francesca Jones takes on experienced American Shelby Rogers, while the remaining Brit in the draw, Katie Boulter, has been drawn against Daria Kasatkina for her opener.
