Emma Raducanu has thanked her fans for their “generous support” during her remarkable 2021.

The 18-year-old became the first British woman to win a Grand Slam since Virginia Wade when she secured a stunning triumph at the US Open as a qualifer.

It continued a spectacular breakthrough summer that also saw Raducanu reach the fourth round on debut at Wimbledon.

Reflecting on her year in a post on Instagram, Raducanu said it “wouldn’t have been possible” without the support of her team.

The teenager posted two photos to sum up her 2021: one taken of an evidently exhausted, but elated, Raducanu soon after winning her maiden Grand Slam in New York; the other of the now world number 20 celebrating on the Wimbledon grass.

“I want to say thank you & that I am extremely grateful for your generous support,” Raducanu wrote.

“I’ve learnt many things at a fast pace on this incredible journey but all I can say is that I am very excited and motivated for my next steps. I feel I can put in great work together with my team, with patience I believe we’ll get there.

“Huge thanks and big appreciation to my team & people who have supported me! This wouldn’t have been possible without you.”
