Iga Swiatek has reached her first French Open final after brushing aside Nadia Podoroska in straight sets.

She needed just 70 minutes to record an emphatic 6-2, 6-1 victory over her Argentinian opponent, who simply could not cope with the Pole's sheer power on the forehand.

Swiatek, the third-highest ranked teenager on the tour, was billed as an outside chance heading into this tournament at 54th in the world.

But the 19-year-old has been playing unquestionably the best tennis of her career at Roland Garros, not dropping a set throughout the entire tournament and conceding no more than four games in a set.

Indeed, the Pole swept aside world number one Simona Halep 6-2, 6-1 in round four to highlight her talent.

But she was up against an even smaller underdog in 131st-ranked Nadia Podoroska, whose previous best finish in a Grand Slam was the first round of the main draw at the US Open in 2016.

However, the Argentinian had worked her way through the qualifiers and stunned no.5 seed Elina Svitolina in straight sets in the last eight.

With no previous head-to-head data, this would be a venture into the unknown. But Swiatek made sure she lived up to her favourite tag with a dominant performance from start to finish.

She needed just 35 minutes to wrap up the first set on Chatrier, taking a double break on her way despite a slight rally from Podoroska midway through the set.

But in the second set, she showed no sign of taking her foot off the pedal, racing into a 4-0 lead inside 15 minutes - winning 15 of 16 points on serve.

Podoroska avoided the bagel, taking the fourth of her break points to restore some pride and delay Swiatek's victory party.

It didn't take long for the Pole to get back on course, however, breaking back immediately and sealing victory to make it 12 sets unbeaten run going into the showpiece event.

Swiatek can now look forward to facing Sofia Kenin or Petra Kvitova as she bids to win the first Major of her career.
