Johanna Konta claimed her seventh win in a row as she booked a place in the quarter-finals of the Rogers Cup.

The British No1 clinched her maiden WTA Tour title with victory over Venus Williams at the Bank of West Classic in Stanford on Sunday.

Last night in Montreal, Konta excelled against third-round opponent Varvara Lepchenko, winning 6-3, 6-2. The world No14 grabbed the second of two break points in only the second game putting her on the way to winning the first set in 31 minutes.

Konta was quick out of the blocks in the second set, too, breaking the American in the first game and following up with another in the fifth.

She closed out the match in one hour and seven minutes to set up tonight’s clash against Slovakia’s Kristina Kucova, the world No 121.

In the men’s tournament in Toronto, world No1 Novak Djokovic breezed into the quarter-finals as he beat Czech qualifier Radek Stepanek 6-2, 6-4.

Swiss Stan Wawrinka, Japanese Kei Nishikori, Canadian Milos Raonic and Czech Tomas Berdych also went through to the last eight.
