Serena Williams completed the “Serena Slam” by beating Garbine Muguruza in straight sets to win the Wimbledon title.

Williams won 6-4, 6-4 on Centre Court and now holds all four major titles at the same time.

Her sixth Wimbledon crown takes her another step towards her first calendar Grand Slam and, at 33, makes her the oldest female winner of a major in the Open Era.

Williams’ 21st Grand Slam win moves her closer to Steffi Graf's record of 22 Grand Slam titles in the Open Era, and Margaret Court's all-time record of 24.

"I can't believe I am standing here with another Serena Slam," said Williams. "It is so cool. It feels so good."

Williams did not start well against Muguruza, the 21-year-old 20th seed playing in her first Grand Slam final, and was broken in the opening game.

Muguruza beat Williams in the second round at the French Open in 2014 and Spain's first female finalist since 1996 showed no signs of nerves on the big stage.

Williams took a while to settle but fought her way into the match and broke back in the eighth game. She held serve and then broke Muguruza for a second time to take the first set in 44 minutes.

Williams broke Muguruza in the second set and looked to be cruising towards the title when she was 5-1 up and serving. But Muguruza showed great guts and resilience to break back twice and threaten a fightback.

But Williams broke Muguruza to love to take the title in one hour and 22 minutes.
