Australia's world no19 Nick Kyrgios was beaten by 17-year-old Denis Shapovalov, playing only his second senior tournament, at the Rogers Cup in Toronto.

Canada’s Shapovalov, the Wimbledon boys’ champion with a world ranking of 370, saw off Kyrgios 7-6, 3-6, 6-3.

"I'm not going to tell you what I did or didn't do to prepare. I just played pretty bad," said the Australian.

He added: "He played great and he earned it. Obviously he was excited playing in front of his home crowd.

"I know what it feels like to come off one of your biggest junior results and then play in one of your home tournaments."

Before in his career, Kyrgios, 21, has been accused of not trying and last night shouted ‘I’m going home’ to his fans during a petulant display.

Shapovalov will play Grigor Dimitrov in the next round.
