Terry good news for Mourinho

12 April 2012

Jose Mourinho watched Chelsea move effortlessly into the fifth round of the FA Cup and then revealed that captain John Terry is set to return for next weekend's Barclays Premiership clash with Charlton.

The champions - 3-0 winners over Nottingham Forest - now face Blackburn on Wednesday night before taking on Charlton, and Mourinho hopes that Terry, out of action with back and calf problems since December 13, will finally be back in action against the Addicks.

Mourinho said: "He has a little chance to play against Blackburn but a big chance against Charlton."

He added: "But to be fair, Ricardo Carvalho and Michael Essien have been playing together for a long time and playing very well."

Terry admitted that the cup tie against Forest arrived just too soon for him as he bids to shake off the calf injury that has restricted his comeback.

Terry said: "I don't think I'm quite ready yet but it won't be long."

Mourinho will be boosted by Terry's return as it will compensate for the lack of any new signings in the current transfer window.

The Portuguese coach does not expect to welcome new faces to Stamford Bridge before Wednesday's deadline but hopes to have Dutch winger Arjen Robben back from an ankle ligament injury within a fortnight.

There was little to worry Mourinho against Forest as Chelsea ended their dreams of a cup upset as early as the ninth minute.

Andriy Shevchenko put the champions in front when his shot was deflected into the net by Forest defender John Curtis. Ten minutes later, Didier Drogba scored his 22nd goal of the season with a superb 25-yard free-kick and Mikel Jon Obi added the third on the stroke of half-time.
