Tevez at the double as City go top

Carlos Tevez scored twice to take his Premier League tally for the season to 14 and move Manchester City top of the table after a 4-3 thriller with Wolves.

City's £27million new-boy Edin Dzeko made an impressive debut but was upstaged by his strike partner, who was joined on the scoresheet by brothers Kolo and Yaya Toure.

Wolves will feel aggrieved at the lack of reward for their own efforts, clawing themselves back into the contest through Kevin Doyle and Ronald Zubar after Nenad Milijas had originally put them in front.

The hosts, outplayed for the first half-hour, were already wobbling when Kolo Toure blasted a clearance into Vincent Kompany, the rebound dropping kindly for Milijas, who finished at the second attempt despite Joe Hart's initial heroics.

It took City time to assert themselves, but they were back on level terms five minutes before half-time. Kompany got his head to Adam Johnson's corner and flicked towards the far post where Kolo Toure controlled and hit a shot that beat Wayne Hennessey, bounced through David Jones' legs and eventually went over the line

Tevez, shunted from his favoured central berth to a role wide on the left at kick-off, did not take long to make his mark after the break.

He picked up possession on the angle of the area and burst through the passive presence of Christophe Berra and Stephen Hunt, then skipping inside Richard Stearman he steered City in front.

The hosts' third owed much to a neat one-two between Dzeko and Tevez. The Bosnian sent Yaya Toure clean through with a perfect through ball, the midfielder following his brother onto the scoresheet with clinical efficiency.

Pablo Zabaleta then crossed from the right and countryman Tevez's header bounced in via the underside of the crossbar.

Within a few seconds Wolves had pulled one back, Doyle getting to his feet to score from the spot after he had been bundled over by substitute Joleon Lescott. Zubar added another to set up a frantic ending, but City held on.
