The Heineken Cup: How it all works...

13 April 2012

England's six places in next season's Cup will go to: 1 Heineken Cup winner 2 Zurich Championship winner 3 Zurich Premiership winner (Leicester) 4 Zurich Premiership runner-up (currently Gloucester) 5 Zurich Premiership third (currently London Irish) 6 Parker Pen Shield winner

Should any club(s) qualify as two or more of the above, it will take the highest-seeded position for which it qualifies and relinquish any other qualification. In these cases the clubs in position below such relinquished places will move up to occupy the higher seeded position.

If a Premiership club fails to win the Heineken Cup, then seeded positions 2-6 will become 1-5. Any vacancies resulting from multiple qualification, or from Premiership clubs not winning the Cup or Shield will be filled as follows: 7 Zurich Championship runner-up 8 Zurich Premiership fourth 9 Powergen Cup winner (London Irish)

The other Premiership clubs (after promotion/relegation) will qualify for the Parker Pen Shield, seeded in order of final position in the Premiership.
