Sky Sports have extended their deal to show the Open Championship through until 2024.

The broadcaster have shown the oldest Major championship since 2016 when the R&A took coverage away from the BBC. A year later R&A chief executive Martin Slumbers labelled the BBC’s coverage of previous Opens “tired and outdated”.

Sky Sports won a BAFTA for their coverage of the 2016 Open Championship from Royal Troon, where Henrik Stenson won his first and only Major to date.

The 148th Open, held at Royal Portush next week, is the final Major of the year after the PGA Tour’s schedule change for 2019, with Sky’s coverage beginning on the Monday before play begins on Thursday.

"The Open is one of the world's great sporting events and is watched by many millions of viewers around the globe,” Slumbers said of the deal.

"Our partnership with Sky has helped us deliver BAFTA-winning coverage of The Open and present the drama and excitement of the Championship from the opening shot to the closing putt in a dynamic and entertaining way.”
