Toshack urging Welsh belief

12 April 2012

John Toshack insists that Wales "must keep believing" they can qualify for the Euro 2008 finals.

The 3-0 win over San Marino in Cardiff on Wednesday night keeps alive Wales' slim hopes of qualifying from Group D and lifted any perceived pressure on Wales boss Toshack, although his job was never on the line after the defeat by the Republic of Ireland on Saturday.

Toshack said: "We now still feel we will have a say in what goes on in this group. If we can beat the Czech Republic in our next match in the group here in Cardiff, then we will still have games in hand and a genuine chance of doing something. You have to keep believing."

Wales could have bagged a hatful against San Marino, but had to settle for goals from Ryan Giggs, Gareth Bale and a Jason Koumas penalty.

Koumas admitted Wales should have scored more, but was content with the result.

"It could have been six or seven but we'll take the win. It was very comfortable out there and our aim was to get quick goals, which we did but we didn't really follow it up."

Koumas, who won the man-of-the-match award, added: "We had to be patient and create chances which we did."
