Tresco is 'raring to go' - Strauss

12 April 2012

Andrew Strauss has backed opening partner Marcus Trescothick to put his personal problems behind him and become one of the stars of the forthcoming Ashes series in Australia.

Trescothick returned home early from the India tour earlier this year before missing the Champions Trophy campaign as he was still recovering from a stress-related illness.

"I know for a fact he's raring to go," said Strauss. "No-one enjoys playing cricket more than him, and for him to have six weeks or so off is a long period of time, so he can't wait to get out there and play."

He added: "It's been a tough time for him and I think he's got over that. It's fantastic when you've had problems to just have a clear mind and go, 'right, now I can concentrate on my cricket again'.

"I think that's a pretty good springboard for success and I wouldn't be at all surprised if he goes on and has a great series."
