Trott impresses in England's victory bid

12 April 2012

Andrew Flintoff could make only 22 in his final Test innings - but Jonathan Trott marked his own landmark in style as England took further control of their Ashes destiny at the Brit Oval.

Debutant Trott (67 not out) carried England to 209 for six - and an overall lead of 381 runs - midway through the third afternoon against Australia.

The hosts therefore moved into position to push hard for the victory they need over the final two days to clinch the npower series 2-1 and take possession of the urn again.

Number seven Flintoff received a standing ovation on his way to the crease for his last Test innings, and a handshake from Australia captain Ricky Ponting.

A breezy stand of 32 followed, and the 200 had just come up when Flintoff failed to clear long-on as he tried to hoist part-time off-spinner Marcus North out of the ground.

Captain Andrew Strauss contributed a determined 75 but was dismissed shortly before lunch.
