Tyson Fury takes on Deontay Wilder in the third instalment of their heavyweight rivalry on 9 October, but the ‘Gypsy King’ is already looking beyond the American.

According to Fury’s father, the two-time heavyweight champion has earmarked a possible December clash with the current champion Anthony Joshua.

It would be a remarkable turnaround for both British boxers. Wilder is widely regarded as one of the most dangerous and brutal punchers in the sport. Joshua meanwhile is taking on Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk on 25 September.

If both come through unscathed all roads to lead the duo finally meeting in a unification bout which will see Fury put his WBC belt on the line against Joshua’s WBA, IBF, WBO and IBO straps.

‘He’s trying to get Joshua in December,’ John Fury told GiveMeSport. ‘We’re going for that fight this year.

‘Because we see Wilder as no threat at all once he’s done the camp right.

‘If he’s done everything right to the letter, Wilder ain’t a problem, he’s got his number, beat him twice, beat him like a ragdoll, beat him to a pulp last time.

‘Wilder has got nothing to offer him at all, only that big punch.

‘And believe me, what I’m seeing in the new trainer, we know a lot about him as well, so we’ve got no fear at all.’

Fury and Wilder first fought in December 2018 with the bout ending in a controversial draw. When they met again in February 2020, Fury won in the seventh round courtesy of a technical knockout.
