Poland 3 USA 1

The United States reached the second round of the World Cup by the back door, losing 3-1 to already eliminated Poland in group - but ousting Portugal, who lost to co-hosts South Korea.

The Poles caught the Americans napping early on, scoring twice in the first five minutes - first through Emmanuel Olisadebe in the third minute, the fastest goal of the finals, and then through Pawel Kryszalowicz two minutes later.Substitute Marcel Zewlakow added a third in the 66th minute before Landon Donovan pulled one back for the Americans in the 83rd minute.

The United States, who beat Portugal 3-2 in one of the upsets of the World Cup and drew 1-1 with co-hosts South Korea, finished second in the group on four points and play Mexico in the last 16.
