Usain Bolt sluggish on return to 100m

Usain Bolt marked his return to major competition after a 10-month absence by sweeping to victory in the men's 100 metres at the Diamond League meeting in Rome last night.

The world record holder shrugged off a poor start to overhaul his Jamaican compatriot Asafa Powell and win in 9.91 seconds. Powell was second in 9.93 with Frenchman Christophe Lemaitre in third.

Despite his win it was a sluggish performance from Bolt, who was very slow out of the blocks and looked like he had given himself too much to do at the halfway stage, when Powell had a clear lead.
