Vaughan blow takes shine off win

12 April 2012

England broke their Australian tour duck - but it may have come at a price with captain Michael Vaughan sweating on his future participation in the Commonwealth Bank Series.

The 32-year-old tweaked his left hamstring in the field, had to finish his innings with a runner and underwent a scan - the results of which are expected on Wednesday - while his team-mates celebrated.

Vaughan, assessing his chances of making Friday's contest, said: "If I am totally honest, at the minute it is extremely doubtful. I have not had a hamstring injury before and it is new to me in that I don't know how they react overnight or what it will be like getting on a plane."

For now, however, England are just glad to be flying to Queensland, via Melbourne, having halted the waves of defeat which have crashed over them.

Vaughan continued: "We've had a tough tour, we haven't won any games. We feel good to be able to talk about winning a game.

"This was a huge game for us, we have got the series up and running and we must take the momentum from this game.

"We are trying to develop a strategy going into the World Cup over the next few weeks and this is a good start."
