Vaughan hails 'special week'

12 April 2012

Returning captain Michael Vaughan hailed a "special week" after England inflicted the West Indies' heaviest ever defeat by an innings and 283 runs in the second npower Test.

Vaughan, who scored a century in his first Test innings for 18 months on Friday, told Sky Sports 2: "It's been a special week. I was nervous on that first morning but it's nice to come back and do well."

He added: "We are 1-0 up with two to play and we've got to make sure we go to Old Trafford and continue to play the same standard of cricket."

Vaughan, who insisted he felt "all right" after his comeback game, hailed the performance of Ryan Sidebottom, playing his first Test for six years, who claimed eight wickets in the match.

"It was a great option against the left-handers," he added.

"He bowled beautifully, swinging the ball and bowling at a fair pace."
