Vaughan in, Freddie out for England

14 April 2012

Michael Vaughan is set to resume as England captain on Sunday after coming through a practice match while England's Ashes humiliation was being completed.

England, led by Andrew Flintoff, slumped to a 10-wicket defeat and completed a historic Baggy Greenwash while Vaughan was playing for the MCC 60 miles south of Sydney in Bowral, home town of Sir Don Bradman.

Vaughan, who has not played a first-class game since having knee surgery in June, scored 27 in a one-day game against a team of grade-level cricketers and took one for 14 in six overs.

He looks sure to replace Flintoff as captain in Tuesday's Twenty20 clash with Australia in Sydney and the forthcoming triangular one-day series also involving New Zealand.

Andrew Flintoff has said he is happy to continue as England captain in the one-day triangular series despite presiding over the Ashes whitewash.

Asked whether he wanted to continue, Flintoff admitted: "If I was asked to continue as captain then of course.

"If I got asked the same question that I was asked at the end of September of whenever it was again now, then I'd do the same thing.

"I'll sit down with David Graveney over the next day or so and see where we are from there, but at this moment in time I'm switching off and I'm going to have a day off.

"It's been intense stuff for six weeks and I'm going to have a day off and not worry about bowling plans and fielding positions or scoring runs - I'm going to relax."
