Vauxhall out of race series

Vauxhall, the most successful team in the British Touring Car Championship, will quit the series at the end of this season.

They cited the global economic crisis for the decision, adding that the absence of other manufacturer entries in the BTCC had also been taken into consideration.

Vauxhall, who have won seven of the last eight manufacturers championships, said: "We will keep an option open for a possible return to the sport in future years."

Reigning double champion Fabrizio Giovanardi is among their drivers.
