Wales want quick appeal response

14 April 2012

Wales are hoping to hear next week UEFA's response from their appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport to have Russia thrown out of Euro 2004.

Igor Titov failed a drugs test after the first leg of the qualification play-off in November but played in the return match in Cardiff, which the Russians won 1-0.

The Football Association of Wales have failed twice with appeals to UEFA and spent the last month waiting for and digesting the European governing body's ruling from the hearing in Nyon, when Wales were not allowed to make verbal appeals or present scientific evidence.

"We are working hard putting all of our written submissions together before tonight's deadline," said FAW secretary general David Collins. "UEFA then have 10 days to respond. Hopefully, if we are allowed to have a full hearing, they will hold it very quickly in May.

"We hope UEFA allow the appeal to go to the jurisdiction of the Court of Arbitration and then we test the case before the three arbiters."
