Watford seal double swoop

Watford boss Adrian Boothroyd has completed the signings of Rotherham pair Will Hoskins and Lee Williamson in a deal that could rise to £1million.

Williamson, a midfielder, and forward Hoskins become the Hornets' second and third captures since the transfer window opened following the arrival of striker Moses Ashikodi from Rangers earlier in the week.

The pair cannot play against Stockport in the FA Cup third round on Saturday as they are cup-tied, but could make their debuts in the Barclays Premiership match against Liverpool at Vicarage Road next week.

Hoskins has scored 16 times for the Coca-Cola League One club this term and has attracted attention from several clubs in higher divisions.

The 20-year-old - who, like Williamson, has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal - has played for England at Under-20 level.

The Hornets fought off competition from a number of Championship clubs - including their fierce rivals Luton - to land the 24-year-old Williamson, who has netted six times for the Millers this season.

Boothroyd hopes his moves in the transfer market will not end here, however, as he also hopes to persuade Collins John to join the Hornets from Fulham.

The west Londoners have accepted a club record £3.25million bid from Watford for their 21-year-old striker, who has also been linked with Sheffield United.

But John is believed to be uncertain about joining a club who are 10 points adrift of safety in the Premiership and who seem certain to make a swift return to the Championship.
